Clark Construction Group has been selected as the prime contractor by the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to build the MD 355 Multimodal Crossing project at the Medical Center metro station in Bethesda, Maryland.

The firm will be responsible for the design and construction of a pedestrian access route under Maryland Route 355 and high-speed elevators that connect the Metrorail mezzanine at the Medical Center station in Bethesda with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Furthermore, the county and the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) have reached an agreement to build SHA’s adjacent MD 355/Jones Bridge Road BRAC Intersection Improvement project in conjunction with the Crossing project.

The $110M projects will be fully financed by the federal government.

MCDOT director Al Roshdieh said: “We are very grateful to our partners in this project; the Navy, Maryland SHA, Federal Highway Administration, National Institutes of Health and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

“We are also indebted to community and business leaders who toiled for nine years to help develop and promote the initial crossing project concept. And finally we thank the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) for its diligence during the complex grant process.”

Construction work is expected to commence in mid-2017 and be complete in late 2020.
