Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has secured an AED500M ($136.1M) contract for the Gate Avenue project at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) in Dubai.

The development will cover an area of 61,300sq m, featuring 200 dining, boutique, retail and entertainment options as well as a new mosque.

Gate Avenue will also feature various indoor and outdoor themed areas and walkways connecting the podium levels of all buildings.

The new contract will increase the project value to AED1bn ($272.2M), from the current AED450M ($122.5M) in existing truck tunnel and master plan infrastructure.

DIFC executive vice president of property development Nabil Alkindi said: "Gate Avenue at DIFC is a highly ambitious project that is seeing the Centre develop from a leading financial hub into a prominent lifestyle destination by changing the face of urban development in the region."

The first phase of the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
