German utility company E.ON has started work on its Radford’s Run wind farm in Macon County, Illinois.

The $500M project will have an installed capacity of 278MW. It will be the second-largest wind farm in Illinois and the third project that E.ON is accomplishing in the state.

The facility will have a capacity to produce enough electricity to power a city with approximately 90,000 homes. Danish turbine producer Vestas will supply 139 2MW turbines.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
