The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has approved a $396M construction contract award and a $475M bond authorization to finance the Scudder Falls (I-95) Bridge Replacement Project in the US.
The project will include the replacement of the current four-lane Scudder Falls Bridge with a dual-span, six lanes structure (three in each direction), and three auxiliary lanes (two northbound, one southbound) for traffic merging on and off the bridge.
It will also involve the construction of full inside and outside shoulders on both replacement bridge spans, a current highway standard requirement.
The new bridge will have increased capacity, reduce congestion and enhance travel time for drivers.
Pennsylvania-based Trumbull Corporation has been awarded the contract to deliver the project. The survey work is expected to start in March 2017, with construction activities set to begin in April 2017.
The project is anticipated to be constructed in three major stages and take four-and-a-half years to complete.
