MetLife’s institutional asset management business MetLife Investment Management (MIM) and Granite Properties announced the start of construction on Midtown Union, a mixed-use project in Midtown Atlanta, Georgia.

The new project was designed by Cooper Carry and Brasfield & Gorrie acting as the general contractor.

Taking up 8.5 acres of space or nearly a full city block, the project will include a 26-storey, 606,000ft², office building, an 18-storey, 355-unit modern residential tower atop eight levels of parking, a 12-storey, 205-key boutique lifestyle hotel, 30,000ft² of retail, and a 635,000ft² parking deck offering 1,909 parking spaces. The building will be the future headquarters for Invesco.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on 9 December at 1295 Spring Street.

The project will also feature a pedestrian-friendly extension of Arts Center Way. The tree-lined passage will connect Spring and West Peachtree Streets. The path is expected to create new retail destinations in Midtown including shops, restaurants and green space with several seating options.

The development will include biophilic design elements like indoor vegetation, landscaped amenity decks and public green space and draws inspiration from the surrounding art community in the form of sculptures and murals.

Granite Properties and MIM said that they will deliver the project which will offer sustainable office environment with modern amenities to foster productivity, connection and community.

The multi-level hospitality lobby and 12,000ft² landscaped outdoor amenity deck on the eighth floor will offer additional space for people to work and socialize. It will be connected to fitness centre, conference meeting facilities to support multiple meetings and pre-function area. The entire building will feature 14ft floor-to-ceiling glass to maximise natural light and views.
