Developer Brookfield Property Partners has received planning consent from the City of London to build a £400M tower next to Leadenhall Market.

The 36-storey building has been designed by Make Architects and will comprise 49,982 sq m of office space, and 4,738 sq m of retail space. 1 Leadenhall will also feature a public terrace.

Brookfield president and chief operating officer Martin Jepson said: “We are delighted to have received planning consent for 1 Leadenhall, a new building adjacent to the historic Leadenhall Market.

“1 Leadenhall is a carefully considered design that will complement the architecture of the surrounding buildings and embraces the heritage of its unique setting.”

Work on the project is expected to commence in 2018, with the existing seven-storey building expected to be demolished over a period of six months.
