BIC Contracting (BICC), through its subsidiary, has won a contract to refurbish and redevelop the Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
The project includes the refurbishment of the main building’s central hub and east and west wings, in addition to the construction of new facilities within the club and hotel grounds.
The new facilities will include a catering area, banquet hall, sports hub, retail and food and beverage village, beach villas and a beach club with pool.
In 1993, BICC constructed the original Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel, including the curved concrete structure, the largest in the UAE at the time. Later, the company won an additional contract for the east and west wings, which was completed in 1997.
BIC Contracting CEO and managing director Moustafa Fahour said: “BICC is proud to have the opportunity to again work with one of our first clients in Abu Dhabi. We look forward to further participating in Abu Dhabi’s building and infrastructure sectors.”
Construction will commence shortly and is expected to be completed in 17 months.
In September 2018, BIC Contracting won an AED103m ($28m) contract from ARADA Developments for the Stage 1 infrastructure works for the Aljada Development Project, a residential, commercial and retail community in the Emirate of Sharjah in the UAE.
This contract is the first of a package of infrastructure valued at more than AED1bn ($272m) for the project.
Australian engineering services company CIMIC Group has a 45% stake in BICC.
The scope of work for the Aljada project includes networks and systems for roads, storm water, potable water, sewage, power, street lighting and telecommunications.
Construction is due to be completed within one year.
ARADA Chairman Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi said at the time of award of the contract: “Infrastructure is the backbone of any successful real estate development, and as a result ARADA is very pleased to be working with BICC, a high-calibre company with a strong track record in this area. We are confident that they will execute this critical work to the very highest standards.”
