Bechtel to deliver Port Arthur LNG facility in US

Bechtel has been selected by Port Arthur LNG, a wholly owned affiliate of Sempra LNG & Midstream, as the EPC contractor for the Port Arthur liquefaction project in Jefferson County, Texas.

The company will carry out the engineering, execution planning and related activities for preparing and finalising a lump sum EPC contract for the project.

Sempra Energy president and COO Joseph Householder said: “Port Arthur LNG is one of three major LNG export projects that are an important part of our growth platform. Bechtel brings to our project outstanding management experience and commitment to safety we expect on all of our projects.”

The proposed project has been designed to include two natural gas liquefaction trains to enable the long-term sale of 11mtpa of LNG; feed gas pre-treatment facilities; natural gas liquids and refrigerant storage; three LNG storage tanks; two marine berths and associated facilities.

Sempra LNG & Midstream president Octavio Simoes said: “We are confident Bechtel’s construction and management team will help us achieve a world-class LNG export project at Port Arthur and meet the global demand for LNG.”

Development of the liquefaction project is subject to the completion of the required commercial agreements, including an EPC contract, securing permits and approvals, and obtaining financing and incentives.

Bechtel LNG general manager Darren Mort said: “We look forward to partnering with Sempra to successfully develop the Port Arthur LNG facility, from planning through project startup.

“We are honoured that Sempra has entrusted us with the opportunity to play a key role in helping them deliver energy to customers across the globe.”

San Diego-based Sempra Energy is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company serving more than 40 million consumers worldwide.

Through its integrated EPC model, Bechtel has delivered 12 LNG trains and more that 50mtpa of global LNG capacity in less than four years.
