Balfour Beatty to work on The Grove at Shoal Creek project in Texas

Construction firm Balfour Beatty has been appointed to build the first phase of the mixed-use portion of The Grove at Shoal Creek project in Austin, Texas.

The construction firm has been selected by the owners of The Grove at Shoal Creek and its development partner Trammell Crow Company.

Located on a 4.14-acre site, the 402,553ft² project will include a Class A commercial office building, a separate mixed-use Class A office building, and a 538-car parking garage.

The Grove’s mixed-use project has been designed by Gensler and the project’s 206,676ft² of the commercial office and retail areas will aim to achieve Austin Energy Green Building certification.

The new project is located within walking distance of a new 16-acre community park, in addition to pocket parks, dedicated bike lanes, ponds, and water features.

Furthermore, the project will feature an outdoor event plaza that will include pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and centuries-old heritage oak trees.

The Grove’s approach to sustainable development has been designed to enrich the community’s environmental, economic and human well-being.

To deliver the project, Balfour Beatty will use the latest technologies and lean construction methods, including building information modeling (BIM) software, digital documents, drone technologies to document progress on site, and BIM360 Field for quality assurance.

Construction on the project will commence in November with this first phase of The Grove scheduled for completion in early 2020. The project will employ 170 people during its peak construction period.

Balfour Beatty business unit leader in Austin, Ed Prendergast, said: “The owners of The Grove and Trammell Crow Company are committed to developing projects that significantly enhance their communities and we’re honored to be their construction partner on this project.

“We have a valued history of working together and greatly appreciate the trust the owners and Trammell Crow have placed in our team to deliver this unique project that will bring momentum to Austin’s next significant destination.”
