US-based real estate developer BPM Real Estate Group has selected Howard S Wright, a subsidiary of British infrastructure group Balfour Beatty, to construct the 1.1m ft² Block 216 mixed-use development in Portland, Oregon, US.

The 35-storey high-rise project will be anchored by a Ritz-Carlton hotel, which will be the first luxury hotel in Portland.

The Block 216 project will comprise 153,000ft² Class A office space, 251-room The Ritz-Carlton, 138 Ritz-Carlton Residences and 10,00ft² of ground-level retail.

The project, located at the intersection of the Central Business and Pearl districts of Portland, will cover a full city block.

Howard S Wright senior vice president Troy Dickson said: “We have a great history working with BPM Real Estate Group having recently completed Broadway Tower and the Pearl West building, which is home to our Portland office.

“BPM Real Estate Group is committed to developing intelligently-designed projects that greatly enhance their communities.

“We greatly appreciate the trust BPM Real Estate Group has placed in our team to deliver Block 216, which will be an amazing addition to downtown Portland for years to come.”

The project will also feature dedicated entrances for hotel guests and residence owners, a fitness centre, full-service spa and swimming pool on the 19th floor.

Expected to be completed in December 2022, the mixed-use tower will offer multiple food and beverage options, including an indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar on the 20th floor and a food hall on the ground floor.

The mixed-use tower will feature 13,000ft² of meeting space for business events and special celebrations.

Earlier in 2019, commercial real estate capital markets advisor George Smith Partners secured a $460m (£367.3m) loan on behalf of BPM Real Estate Group to fund the construction of the Block 216 mixed-use project.

Recently, Balfour Beatty won a design-build contract worth $203m from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for the US 70 Improvement Project.
