Arabtec Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arabtec Holding, has been awarded a contract valued at AED353m ($96.1m) by the Abu Dhabi National Media Council (NMC) to build the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020.
The UAE Pavilion, which will be located opposite Al Wasl Plaza in the centre of the 4.38 sq km exhibition area, has been designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava that resembles a falcon in flight.
The pavilion will be constructed on a 15,000 sq m plot, and will boast a total built-up area of 19,200 sq m. The upper floor of the pavilion sprawls over an area of 2,000 sq m while the mezzanine floor will have an area of 662 sq m.
The ground floor, with gardens and parking spaces, spreads over 13,300 sq m. Another 3,000 sq m space will be provided for a plaza level and related facilities.
Construction on the pavilion is expected to commence this month, while project completion is scheduled in the last quarter of 2019.
Arabtec Construction Group CEO Hamish Tyrwhitt said: “The UAE Pavilion project marks yet another achievement on our roadmap to a sustainable and successful future.
“It highlights our strategic focus on the UAE as our core market and also demonstrates our commitment to building our future through the development of social infrastructure in addition to instilling a performance based culture within our organization.”
