Arabtec to build public realm in concourses and arrivals plazas at Expo 2020

Arabtec Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arabtec Holding, has won a contract worth AED 311m ($84.6m) from Expo Dubai 2020 to build the public realm in concourses and arrivals plazas at Expo 2020.

The scope of the work will include the construction of 268,000m² of public concourses including public entrance plazas, landscaping, lighting water features, irrigation, landscape structures, and furniture.

Work on the project is scheduled to commence this month and will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Arabtec Group chief executive officer Hamish Tyrwhitt said: “We are delighted that Expo Dubai 2020 have selected Arabtec to deliver this important element of the Expo Master Plan. This award demonstrates our commitment to diversifying our business and building upon our social infrastructure capability as a core competency.”

Arabtec Construction has also won a contract valued at AED299m ($81.4m) from DAMAC Properties for the construction of 478 luxury villas in the developer’s AKOYA Oxygen project, a master community development in Dubai.

AKOYA Oxygen is a 55 million ft² master development showcasing the greenest living spaces in Dubai. It also includes an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Tiger Woods.

The master development’s residential offering of serviced and non-serviced villas and apartments are complemented by community conveniences and latest amenities.

Construction is anticipated to start soon, with plans to complete the villas within 16 months.

Tyrwhitt said: “We are delighted that DAMAC continues to show confidence in Arabtec Construction through the award of our third project at the AKOYA Oxygen master development, further building on our longstanding relationship.”
