AECOM wins role on Saudi Arabia’s £400bn NEOM Bay project

US-based infrastructure firm AECOM has received a multi-year contract to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services for the first phase of NEOM Bay, a $500bn (£400.7bn) mega-project being developed in northwestern Saudi Arabia.

Under the contract, AECOM will be responsible for project management, contract administration, technical and environmental support services, and site supervision over the entire design and construction phases of the project.

AECOM chairman and CEO Michael Burke said: “Our expertise delivering leading project management services in the Middle East will help ensure the success of NEOM Bay Phase 1.

“We have already begun mobilizing our global experts to support development of this new city and tourist destination that holds such immense potential in the Kingdom.’’

Located in the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia, at the intersection with Jordan and Egypt, NEOM Bay will be a special economic zone and diverse society.

The NEOM Bay Phase 1, which will span an area of 45km², will comprise several thousand residential units, leisure, retail, commercial, public and entertainment facilities with supporting infrastructure and utilities.

Work on the first phase of NEOM Bay is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

The strategic concept of the masterplan for NEOM Bay was approved in January 2019 by the NEOM Founding Board.

Commenting on the approval, NEOM CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr said: “We are now preparing for the development of NEOM Bay area, which will provide a new concept of urban living that will enable it to become a platform for attracting the world's top minds for creating advanced economic sectors.

"The strategy of developing NEOM Bay will rely on four key pillars that will be ingrained in the entire project development, with sustainability at the heart of aspect of the project.

“The first is to provide a living experience and an ideal quality of life for families; the second is to create a high-end lifestyle and a luxurious tourist destination; the third and fourth pillars are to support both innovation and creative centers in order to achieve NEOM’s economic goals.”
