US-based infrastructure firm AECOM has announced the opening of the $470m Sobrato Pavilion building on the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) campus in San Jose, California.
As project and construction manager, AECOM has provided schedule and cost management, quality assurance, project administration and contract management during the pre-construction and construction phases for the six-storey, 370,000ft2 Sobrato Pavilion.
The company has provided similar services for the medical centre’s Receiving and Support Center (RSC), which was recently completed.
The Sobrato Pavilion accommodates 168 private patient rooms, including intensive care, acute/transitional beds, and rehabilitation beds, as well as a spinal cord and traumatic brain injury Rehabilitation Center.
The Sobrato Pavilion has been designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, and it will be the first public hospital in the US to meet this standard.
The 145,000ft2 RSC, the material receiving facility for the campus, is connected to the Sobrato Pavilion and other campus buildings by an underground tunnel.
The RSC includes offices for the Facilities Department of the medical centre.
Both facilities form part of the 50-building Santa Clara Valley Medical Center campus.
AECOM senior programme manager David Wilson said: “AECOM is proud to have partnered with Santa Clara County in the delivery of these critical facilities.
“Both projects involved significant challenges that required the specialised knowledge of medical buildings and construction management expertise that the AECOM team brings.
“The successful delivery of this work validates our position as a national leader in managing construction projects that improve and enhance healthcare facilities in our communities.”
AECOM, a Fortune 500 firm, designs, builds, finances and operates infrastructure assets for governments, businesses and organisations in more than 150 countries. The company had revenue of about $18.2bn during fiscal year 2017.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is accredited by The Joint Commission.
