The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced plans for the expansion of Ruwais City, a 6.9km² community near the Ruwais Industrial Complex in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region.

UAE Minister of State and ADNOC Group CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber launched Ruwais City brand identity ‘Where Opportunity Lives’.

Under the project, the city’s population is expected to increase twofold over the next 15 years to more than 50,000, and thousands of specialised, highly skilled jobs will be created with ADNOC’s investment in its downstream operations.

Recently, ADNOC decided to develop the world’s largest integrated refining and petrochemicals complex in Ruwais for which it will invest AED165bn ($44.9bn).

Development of the industrial complex and the city is expected to boost the local economy.

ADNOC is building more than 3,000 residential units, taking the total number of city housing units to over 10,000, to meet the requirements of immediate population growth.

The city’s development will include lifestyle, recreation and community projects, including beach facilities, a central park, traditional ‘souq’, an 18-hole golf course, cricket field, running track and cycling track, in addition to expansion of the public transport network, community and civic centres and health centres.

The city will also feature integrated government service centres, including Ruwais City’s first Tamm Center, from where residents can obtain official government documents instead of travelling to Abu Dhabi for this purpose.

Ruwais City’s community offerings will include eight schools and universities, three pharmacies, three major markets, three travel agencies, four fitness clubs, two parks, a major shopping mall and other commercial and civic centres.

The Ruwais City brand launch includes a Brand Activation Stand, located within Ruwais City Mall, where residents can learn about ADNOC’s downstream growth and city development plans.

Jaber said: “The AED 165 billion investment in our downstream operations, over the next five years, will have a big ripple effect that will create new employment opportunities, establish new businesses and enable existing businesses to grow and prosper.

“The in-county value will also be significant as we expand our operations, introduce new high-value products and grow our downstream market share.”
