SA Energy Group, a 50:50 joint venture between Aecon and Robert B Somerville, has won a CAD282m ($214m) contract from Enbridge Pipelines for Spreads 8 and 9 of the Line 3 Replacement Phase 2 project in Manitoba, Canada.The scope of work includes construction of 92.2km pipeline in the area of Brandon, Manitoba, for Spread 8, and 96.5km pipeline near Morden, Manitoba, for Spread 9 extending to the Canada-US border.According to Aecon Group, construction is expected to commence in August 2018 and substantial completion is likely by the end of 2018.SA Energy Group had recently completed Spreads 3 and 4 (261km) under Phase 1 of the Line 3 Replacement project in Saskatchewan.Aecon Group president and CEO John Beck said: “This award, combined with Aecon’s recent major project wins, will see backlog reach record levels in the second quarter of 2018 and demonstrates our proven capabilities delivering a diverse range of projects through Aecon’s Industrial segment.”Aecon Industrial executive vice president Mark Scherer said: “SA Energy Group’s experience executing Spreads 3 and 4 with outstanding safety and quality performance, engagement of Indigenous Peoples and regulatory compliance, highlights the joint venture’s proven capability to deliver key components of this project.“The award of Spreads 8 and 9 solidifies SA Energy Group as a partner-of-choice for Enbridge and Aecon looks forward to further mobilising pipeline capabilities while working with our partners on this important project.”Earlier in July 2018, Aecon secured an AUD248m ($188m) contract from the City of Toronto for the FG Gardiner Expressway Rehabilitation Project: Section 1, part of the overall FG Gardiner Strategic Rehabilitation Plan under which the entire expressway will be rehabilitated.The scope of work includes replacement of the superstructure of the FG Gardiner Expressway between Cherry Street and Jarvis Street (1.1km), rehabilitation of three ramps, installation of new street lighting and a Road Emergency Services Communication Unit (RESCU) system.The project will begin in the third quarter of 2018 and construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.Beck said: “The FG Gardiner Expressway is a critical roadway that moves over 200,000 people daily and we’re proud to lead this important component of the Strategic Rehabilitation Plan.”____________________________________________________________________________________________Image: The Atlantic Sunrise pipeline project is an expansion of the existing Transco natural gas pipeline.
