Building materials group Etex has announced plans to construct a new plasterboard plant with an investment of £140m ($180.3m) in the UK.Planned to be built in Portbury close to the port of Bristol, in South West England, the new facility will represent the company’s fifth of its kind since 2015.Etex expects the new facility, which will be located adjacent to the existing Bristol plant, to allow it to increase the service level to its customers in the UK and across Europe.Etex CEO Paul Van Oyen said: “Our new Bristol factory will be a key driver to further strengthen our position in the UK, which is the largest plasterboard market in Europe.”The company, which produces plasterboard in the UK, sells its products and solutions under the Siniat brand. It operates two plasterboard plants in Bristol and Ferrybridge as well as supplies the UK and Irish markets.Oyen added: “The UK is facing a chronic housing shortage and an increasing number of older homes require renovation, boosting the demand for both our plasterboard and off-site solutions.“The new facility will enable Etex to meet the demand for high-quality building materials and allow the company to establish and strengthen long-term relationships with its customers based on trust and proximity.”Scheduled for commissioning in 2022, the new facility is expected to position the firm to support the ongoing growth in the construction market and its customers in the UK. Oyen further said: “As a result of this major investment, Etex confirms its ambition to be a focussed player in lightweight construction with plasterboard, fibre cement and passive fire protection solutions.”The new production plant, which will be easily accessible through the port of Bristol, will meet the most stringent environmental, health and safety standards.
