Strabag’s subsidiary Züblin International Qatar has secured a contract to design and build a wastewater pumping station in Doha, Qatar.

Züblin stated that the value of the contract is €113m and the project is scheduled to be completed by July 2021.

The scope of work includes the construction of a wastewater pumping shaft with a depth of 50m, a diameter of 36m and a planned pumping capacity of 6,000 litres per second.

The contract also includes building an upstream screen shaft with similar depth and diameter of 24m, including an odour control system, as well as ancillary buildings and facilities.

Strabag CEO Thomas Birtel said: “Our geographic focus is on Europe. But we also work on large infrastructure projects internationally when our technological expertise is needed.”

Last month, Strabag reached financial close of $713m for its project Autopista al Mar 1 in Columbia. The project was awarded by the Colombian National Infrastructure Agency to Devimar in 2015.

Devimar is a partnership company with partners including Sacyr with 37.5%, Strabag 37.5% and Concay 25% stakes in the company.

The banks that have offered the funding include Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN ), Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO), KfW IPEX-Bank, BID Invest, CAF, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking, Société Générale and BlackRock.

Devimar CEO Jesús Rodríguez Robles said: “This financial close is a very important achievement for Devimar. We are proud to receive such confidence from national and foreign banks, which underscores the solidity of the project Autopista al Mar 1. We are deeply satisfied with the progress of the construction since the outset.

“Our venture will bring long-lasting development to Antioquia and Colombia and will have a positive impact in the wellbeing of their people.”

The project Autopista al Mar 1 includes building a motorway between Medellín and Santa Fe de Antioquia and the building of a parallel tunnel of 4.6km at the Túnel de Occidente.

The contract also includes rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the entire 176km concession road.
