Whittier inaugurates its new $37 million health center in Boston
6 February 2012Whittier Street Health Center (Whittier) has inaugurated its new, $37 million community health facility at Roxbury in Boston, Massachusetts, US.
The hospital's new six-storey, 79,000 square feet Community Health Facility houses space for several medical, social and wellness services. The services offered at the new centre includes dental and eye care, behavioral health and substance abuse services, a physical therapy clinic, community space as well as a pharmacy. The new centre also house a new Dana-Farber Mammography Suite and medical oncology consultation space. The building features several green elements. Whittier is pursuing for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for the new centre. The Community Health Facility in the construction phase created 450 construction jobs and 50 new full time jobs. The facility can annually handle about 220,000 patients, which is a significant boost from its earlier capacity of 70,000 patients per annum at its old site. Whittier, to build the new facility, secured $12 million funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services as per the provisions of its American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding (ARRA).
