Vinci wins $363 million Hong Kong transit contract

Dutch company, VINCI Construction Grands Projets, has secured a €280 million (US$ 363.05 million) contract for the construction of a tunnel for the new Hong Kong SCL mass transit line.

Under the terms of the contract, the company will build a 4km long tunnel for the new Hong Kong Shatin to Central Link (SCL) mass transit line. The tunnel will be divided into 2,475m of drill and blast tunnel and 1,400m of twin tunnels that will be excavated using a 7.4m diameter slurry tunnel-boring machine.

The construction of the tunnel is scheduled to begin on 22 October 2012 and is expected to be completed by mid 2018.

The new Shatin to Central Link will be a 12km underground mass transit line. The line will feature four new stations and two reconfigured interconnecting station. The entire project has been broken into 10 smaller contracts.

VINCI Construction Grands Projets has already participated in the construction of the Hong Kong Mass Transit railway between 1998 and 2002, with the completion of five tunnels under the Black Hill Mountains for the extension to the town of Tseung Kwan O.
