WVB East End Partners, the consortium led by Vinci Concessions SA and including Walsh Investors LLC and Bilfinger Berger PI International Holdings, has secured a $1 billion contract to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the Ohio River Bridges Project’s East End Crossing in Indiana.

The 35-year operation and maintenance contract has been awarded by the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA). The new East End Bridge will be located about 13km from downtown Louisville and will connect the Gene Snyder Freeway to the Lee Hamilton Highway.

Pursuant to the contract, the consortium will build a 762m long cable-stayed bridge across the Ohio River that will link Louisville, Kentucky to Southern Indiana, a 512m twin-bore tunnel on the Kentucky approach to the bridge, and 19 additional bridges, and undertake associated roadway improvements and other related infrastructure work.

The works will be executed by a design-build joint venture including Walsh Construction Vinci Construction Grands Projects and Jacobs Engineering for the engineering works. The construction is expected to begin in mid-2013 and will be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
