Turner to construct new plant for Carpenter Technology in Alabama
22 February 2012Carpenter Technology Corporation has awarded the contract for a new, $500 million plant in Limestone County, Alabama, to a group lead by Turner Construction Company.
The construction group consists of Turner Construction Company and its design-build partner, Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon. The plant will be built in phases. The first phase, which will be constructed on a 230-acre site, involves construction of several buildings totaling 400,000 square feet. The construction would commence in April 2012 and the facility is scheduled to be designed and constructed in approximately 30 months. The new facility will integrate remelting, forging and associated finishing and testing capabilities into an ultra-modern plant. Carpenter Technology produces and distributes conventional and powder metal specialty alloys, including stainless steels, titanium alloys, tool steels and superalloys used in many different industries including aviation and aerospace.
