Trelleborg launches Elastoseal waterproofing roofs
Published: 02-Sep-2010
Trelleborg, an industrial group in Sweden, has launched Elastoseal roofing system, a waterproof roofing system, which can be installed easily.
Trelleborg’s Elastoseal roofing system which comes with the Electrobond technique is a unique fixing process means that the roofing material does not require puncturing with screws and washers or the use of adhesives to make it stay put. Also, it is also made to size, minimizing the work that must be done onsite during installation.
Elastoseal is a Trelleborg brand for an elastomeric waterproofing membrane based on ethylene propylene diene methylene rubber, or EPDM. The material is extremely flexible and has an expected service life of more than 50 years.
Elastoseal membranes can also be used for lining reservoirs, garden ponds and tanks. The Electrobond installation technique was launched in late 2009 by Trelleborg and is being used by authorized roofing contractors.
To fix the Elastoseal to a roof, first steel washers or fasteners laminated with the Thermobond material are anchored to the roof with screws in an optimized pattern. Then, as the Elastoseal panel is rolled out to cover the roof, a portable handheld device called a Centrix induction heating machine is used to induce heat with magnetic fields so the Elastoseal and Thermobond materials chemically bind to each other. Fastening to individual washers takes only six seconds, and the washers are not visible after installation.
The advantages of Elastoseal and Electrobond include superior durability, low weight and life-cycle economy, maintenance-free, fast, controlled and secure installation, and environmentally sound and do not leach additives.
