Toyota to set up second manufacturing facility in India

Toyota, the Japanese automobile manufacturer, would soon set up its new manufacturing plant at Bangalore in Karnataka, India.

Toyota is planning to invest $680 million for the construction of the plant, which would have a production capacity of 70,000 units per annum. The plant is expected to become operational by the end of 2010.

With the launch of this plant, Toyota would also look to introduce models that are specifically suited to the Indian markets and will be priced around INR1 million ($21,346). Also, upon completion of the plant, the company's total production capacity will scale up to 140,000 vehicles annually.

Toyota already operates a manufacturing facility in Bangalore and this would be the company’s second location in the same state.
