Three key tunnels in Himachal Pradesh to be constructed by early next year

Work to construct three key tunnels in Himachal Pradesh, an Indian state, would begin early next year.

The Public Works Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur Gulab Singh reportedly stated that the pre-feasibility report for the projects has been prepared by the state electricity board and 18 consultants have evinced interest in the project. He went on to add that the department has formed a technical committeeheaded by the Engineering-in-chief, to shortlist consultants by July 24, 2010. One of the three tunnels Bhubu Jot tunnel, to be constructed between Shilh Badahani-Telang on Joginderngar Ghatssani-Telang Kullu road, is expected to cost INR857 million ($18 million). The costs of the other two tunnels - Holi-Utrala tunnel and Bangana-Dhaneta tunnel are estimated to be around INR1.45 billion ($31 million) and INR354 million ($7.57 million) respectively.
