Ta Ann mill invaded by protestors

31 January 2012

The Ta Ann veneer mill in Tasmania had to close last week due to a protest by environmental campaigners claiming the company is felling old-growth trees.

The action, by about 20 activists, is the latest in a campaign by environmental campaigners to highlight what it calls unsustainable timber sourcing practices. The company recently lost business with UK plywood importer International Plywood after a highly-publicised investigation by green groups into its timber sourcing. Ta Ann has launched a new brochure in which it counters environmentalists’ arguments and states that it is not a logging company but receives its wood fibre from sustainable sources provided by Forestry Tasmania.
