Sumitomo Chemical breaks ground on manufacturing plant in Singapore

Sumitomo Chemical has announced that the its group company Sumitomo Chemical Asia PTE Limited has begun construction work on the new solution styrenebutadiene rubber (S-SBR) manufacturing plant in Singapore.

The new facility, located in Merbau area, Jurong Island, Singapore, will produce Styrene-butadiene rubber for high-performance and fuel-efficient tires. The plant will have a production capacity of 40,000 tons per year. The facility is scheduled for completion in June 2013. Commercial operations are planned to begin during the fourth quarter of 2013. The company, expecting further demand growth, is working on a plan to build an additional plant to increase production. The company continues to enhance its SSBR business globally by increased production with the new plant in Singapore and future expansions, along with its existing 10, 000 tons per annum plant in Japan.
