Singapore LTA awards six contracts for North-South Corridor tunnels

Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded six contracts totalling S$3.14bn ($2.3bn) to design and construct the tunnels and commuter facilities, including pedestrian overhead bridges and bus stops, for six sections of the North-South Corridor (NSC).

Work will be carried between East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Victoria Street; Victoria Street and Kampong Java Road; Marymount Lane and Pemimpin Place; Pemimpin Place and Sin Ming Avenue; Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9; and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 and Sungei Seletar.

Work is expected to commence by the end of 2019.

The 21.5km NSC, the first integrated transport corridor that will connect ECP in the south to Admiralty Road West in the north, will feature express bus routes and at-grade cycling trunk routes.

GS Engineering has won a S$635.8m ($462m) contract for a section of the tunnel between ECP and Victoria Street.

The company will design and construct a 1km section of tunnel and 1km section of viaduct, three entry ramps and four exit ramps.

A joint venture between Ssangyong Engineering and Wai Fong Construction has won a S$482.5m ($350m) contract for a section of the tunnel between Victoria Street and Kampong Java Road.

The joint venture will design and construct a 1.55km section of the tunnel with two entry ramps and two exit ramps.

The Singapore branch of China Railway First Group (CRFG) has secured a S$446m ($324m) contract for a section of the NSC tunnel between Marymount Lane and Pemimpin Place.

CRFG will design and construct a 1.1km section of the tunnel with one entry ramp.

A joint venture between Hwa Seng Builder, Chye Joo Construction and Ho Lee Construction has been awarded a S$242.9m ($177m) contract for a section of the tunnel between Pemimpin Place and Sin Ming Avenue.

The joint venture will design and construct a 0.7km section of the tunnel with one entry ramp and one exit ramp.

Similarly, a S$799m ($581m) contract has been awarded to Lum Chang Building Contractors for a section of the NSC tunnel between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9.

The company will design and construct a 1.95km section of the tunnel and one entry ramp.

Ssangyong Engineering has won a S$537.1m ($391m) contract for a section of the NSC tunnel and viaduct between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 and Sungei Seletar.

The company will design and construct a 1.3km section of tunnel, 1.1km section of viaduct and 340-metre at-grade road between NSC tunnel and NSC viaduct with one exit ramp.
