Samsung to build $158 million wind power project in Scotland
31 January 2012Korea-based Samsung Heavy Industries Company Limited (SHI) has annoucned plans to build a wind power plant in Fife, Scotland in the UK, which will entail an investment of £100 million ($158.53 million).
SHI has entered into a strategic agreement with Scottish Enterprise and Fife Council and will work closely the agencies for the development of 7MW wind project. The facility will commence operations in 2014. The gearbox system for the project will be designed and supplied by David Brown Gear Systems. The company intends to co-locate a gearbox assembly plant to supply the SHI facility at Methil. SHI activities at Methil will also be subject to the appropriate planning consent. The project is anticipated to create about 500 new jobs in the region. SHI operates as a shipbuilding company that offers tankers, bulk carriers, liquefied natural gas carriers (LNG carriers), containers, and passenger ships worldwide. Among other business, the company is also engaged in wind power business.
