Salini Costruttori breaks ground on Ulu Jelai Hydroelectric Project in Malaysia

Italian general contractor Salini Costruttori has broken ground on the €500 million ($690.2 million) Ulu Jelai Hydroelectric Project in Pahang, Malaysia.

The Susu dam, which is the primary component of the project, will be constructed on the Bertam river. The 800,000 cubic metre dam will have a height of more than 80 metres and will be built using advanced Roller compacted concrete (RCC) concrete. The construction work also comprises of an underground powerhouse for the two 190MW turbines and almost 26km of tunnels to be drilled using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). The project is scheduled to be completed within five years. Salini Costruttori is a private general contractor based in Italy that operates through 29 subsidiary companies located across the world.
