Proposal to build athletic complex for St. Ambrose University under discussion
8 July 2010A proposal to build a $30 million athletic complex for St. Ambrose University at the wooded area, the previous headquarters of the Diocese of Davenport, in Davenport, US, is in the discussion stage.
The preliminary plans include a 5,000-seat football stadium with a track, baseball field, softball field, two collegiate soccer fields, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, three practice fields and more than 1,000 parking spaces. It also includes restrooms, concessions, a storage building, weight room and athletic offices.
Construction schedule for the stadium and other fields has not been fixed. It is expected that the construction on the facilities including 425 parking spaces, a softball field, sand volleyball courts and three practice fields, is expected to begin within the next two years.
The planned location for the stadium falls under a zoned residential area, which would require special-use permits from the city. University officials have also shared a ‘preliminary vision’ of the property with the neighboring residents. The total cost of the project is expected to be $30 million.
The university bought the 45-acre property off the West Central Park Avenue in July 2009 for $3.35 million.
