PPL announces plans for new data and operations center in Pennsylvania

9 June 2011

Pennsylvania-based PPL Electric Utilities, a subsidiary of PPL, has announced plans to build a data and operations center in Upper Macungie Township, Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The new, state-of-the-art facility will be located on a 12 acre plot near the corporation's international headquarters in Allentown. The facility will combine the existing transmission and distribution operations centers and host the utility's new emergency response center. The new center will be a cutting-edge electric system operations center and is expected to ensure safe service for the 1.4 million customers of PPL Electric Utilities. Pennsylvania-based Robert E. Lamb will provide planning, design and construction support services while Skanska USA Building will perform construction management and general contracting for the project. The center will house 125 to 150 employees, who are currently working in other facilities in the city. PPL plans to begin construction in late 2011 and complete the construction work in late 2012.
