Pomerleau to build $38 million Westmount Recreation Centre

The City of Westmount in Quebec, Canada has announced that the design-build contract with Pomerleau Inc. for the construction of the $38 million Westmount Recreation Centre (WRC) will be submitted to council for approval.

Pomerleau is responsible to carry out the $33.5 million design-build contract, which will include two skating rinks that will be completely built below ground, an outdoor 25m swimming pool with eight lanes and starter blocks, a diving area, an adjacent toddler pool as well as three outdoor tennis courts. WRC will also be home to a youth centre and feature two exercise rooms for a variety of activities as well as offices for the Sports & Recreation Department. One of the rinks will be standard size at 200 feet long while the other will be 185 feet. The development has secured $38 million investment, of which $20 million came from government infrastructure grants, expected $5 million in donations and $1 million that has already been spent, the WRC will cost Westmount taxpayers $12 million, or an additional $200 in taxes for the average house, representing 2% of their annual tax bill.
