Philippines Airport’s terminal expansion underway

The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in the Philippines, which is undergoing an expansion of its Terminal 1, would be ready for operations by April 2010.

According to Victor Jose Luciano, president and CEO of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), construction of the DMIA Terminal 1 would cost a total of PHP308 million ($6 million approx.).

The two aero bridges, which arrived on March 4, 2009 at the Clark Civil Aviation Complex, would be installed at the newly expanded terminal. The new expanded DMIA Terminal 1 is a two-story building that will feature two aero bridges, flight information display, close circuit television, background music, public address system, x-ray machines, escalators and elevators.

Luciano said that the new expanded terminal will have a bigger space for commercial concessionaires including a larger lounge for passengers.

The expanded terminal will accommodate an additional 500,000 passengers annually. The current capacity of the terminal is two million passengers annually.
