A new study on the effects of the mountain pine beetle infestation on the British Columbia (BC) timber industry will be published in early 2012 by Wood Markets Group. Wood Markets has hinted that fewer pine forests could be affected up to 2020 than originally predicted.

Steico reports reduced profits

German wood fibre insulation and I-joist manufacturer Steico has reported reduced profits on the back of increased competition and a poorer economic climate for its products.Profits before interest and tax were €7.2m for the first nine months (2010: €8.1m), while sales increased 13.9% to €110.7m (2010: €97.2m).

Nordlam expands glulam production

Nordlam is to construct a second glulam line at its Magdeburg facility, Germany. The company said that the 60,000m³ line would be operational around the end of 2012. Smaller glulam cross sections will be made by the line.
