Orion wins $23 million design-build contract from US Navy

Orion Marine Group, a US-based heavy civil marine contractor, has announced that it has secured a $23 million contract for the replacement of a wharf from the US Navy.
Orion Marine Group's wholly owned subsidiary, Misener Marine Construction, was recently awarded a contract by the US Navy to design and build a replacement facility for Wharf Charlie at Naval Station Mayport in the Jacksonville, Florida area. The project includes the design and build of approximately 800 linear feet of new steel sheet pile bulkhead in front of the existing bulkhead along with a 64 feet wide by 600 feet long second deck structure consisting of concrete slabs, beams, and columns over deep pile foundations.
The project also includes the removal and replacement of existing paving, fender system, utility services which include high-mast lighting fixtures, new concrete utility igloos, piping, and wiring along with a new sacrificial anode cathodic protection system for the steel sheet piles and underground utility piping.
Onsite construction of the project is expected to commence during the first quarter of 2011 and last approximately 18 months.
