Nusantara Smelting to build copper smelting plant in Indonesia

PT Nusantara Smelting Corporation has agreed to construct a copper processing center in Bontang, East Kalimantan in Indonesia.

The plant will have a processing capacity of 600,000 tons a year and will be completed by 2014. The company has already agreed to process copper produced by mining giant Freeport McMoRan and Newmont Nusa Tenggara.

Freeport has expressed an interest in sending 58% of its copper ore to domestic smelters.
