NTPC to build $1710 million coal-based power plant in India
15 July 2010National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), a state owned power company in India, is planning to invest over INR80000 million ($1710 million) in Gujarat, India to commission a 1,320MW coal based power plant.
The investment might be increased upto INR100, 000 million ($2138 million), if the power utility company secures required resources for a project size of 1,980 MW. The Gujarat government is seeking 50% of the power to be generated from the proposed project. The Gujarat government has offered 1,200 acres at Dhuvaran in Anand district where Gujarat State Electricity Corporation owns and operates 440MW of generation capacity.
The upcoming thermal power project will have two units of 660MW super critical technologies and NTPC is aiming to set up the third unit of 660MW at the same location. The proposed project will depend on imported and domestic coal.
