New York’s Elmira Corning Airport to receive facelift

Published: 05-Mar-2010

Elmira Corning Regional Airport, a county-owned, public-use airport in Chemung County, New York, is planning to undertake $500 million renovation project.

The facelift scheme will include renovation of plane ramp outside the terminals, construction of a canopy over the loading and unloading area, a bigger security checkpoint waiting area, and bathrooms beyond the security checkpoint.

The renovation project is necessitated by the 17% increase in passenger traffic over the past year. The main reason for the increased traffic is attributed to the local natural gas exploration business.

Work is expected to commence by mid-2010 with scheduled completion by late 2010. The renovation scheme will be funded by federal, state and county money.
