3 June 2013

Swedish construction company NCC AB has started construction work on a new SEK1.017 billion ($153.57 million) shopping mall and a public transport hub, dubbed as Matinkylä Metro Center project, in Matinkylä, Espoo, in the Greater Helsinki area, Finland.

The Matinkylä Metro Center project involves extension of the existing Iso-Omena shopping centre. The project will deliver approximately 25,000 square metres of leasable retail space, approximately about 600 parking spaces for visitors, a bus terminal and metro station. The transport hub part of the project is being developed by Länsimetro, the company that operates metro traffic in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.

The project will be carried out as an equal stake joint venture (JV) between NCC's NCC Property Development division and Citycon, a Finland-based real estate company. The company has acquired the site from the City of Espoo.

The shopping centre is scheduled for completion in mid-2016. The new metro station and the bus terminal are scheduled for completion in 2015. Upon completion, the project will constitute as the main transport hub in the western part of the capital area.
