Mayo Clinic and Singapore-based real estate developer Pontiac Land Group will jointly expand the Gonda Building on Mayo’s Rochester campus in New York to meet the need for additional clinical space and to offer a premier hospitality experience to patients and visitors.
The 11-floor expansion will include four floors for new clinical space and seven floors for a hotel space.
The clinical space expansion will provide an additional 200,000ft² to accommodate current patients and meet the needs of future patients. Mayo Clinic will invest $190m in this expansion and use the additional space to expand the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and Outpatient Procedure Center.
Mayo Clinic executive dean of practice Michel Harper said: “Mayo Clinic is experiencing increased requests for care across our campuses, and meeting the current and future medical needs of our patients is our top priority.
“We’re experiencing significant patient care space constraints on our Rochester campus, so we’re excited that this collaboration with Pontiac Land allows us to reach our expansion goals earlier to ensure that we have the infrastructure in place to provide the best possible care to our patients for generations to come.”
Mayo Clinic and Pontiac Land will form a joint venture for ownership of the hotel. Pontiac Land will develop the hotel space and the hotel will be operated by a major hotel group.
Pontiac Land COO Philip Kwee said: “The collaboration will bring together two fields of complementary expertise: medical and hospitality. Each partner will be able to leverage their individual expertise to enhance the patient and guest experience.
“We are excited about this collaboration and look forward to delivering a distinctive hospitality experience to match Mayo Clinic’s clinical excellence.”
Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2019 or early 2020 and the project is likely to be completed by the end of 2022. The Gonda family has supported the project.
