L&T secures EPC contract to build largest Paraxylene unit in India

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has secured an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract worth INR20.35 billion ($447.81 million) from ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (OMPL), to set up an aromatics complex at Mangalore SEZ, which is said to be the single largest Paraxylene unit in India.
The project involves nine process units including naphtha hydro-treating unit, continuous catalytic regeneration & platforming unit, PAREX unit, ISOMAR unit and more.
The complex will produce aromatic products Paraxylene and Benzene, as well as other byproducts like Hydrogen, Heavy Aromatics and LPG, starting from Naphtha as a raw material.
The project is expected to be ready for commissioning by December 2012. OMPL will utilize the technology of UOP–USA, as a Licensor. The scope of work includes residual basic design, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, testing, commissioning and performance test run.
