Lendlease has stated construction on a new seven-storey development on the corner of Oxford Street and Newman Street in London’s West End, UK.

The Oxford House scheme, which is being developed for Great Portland Estates, will provide 124,000ft² of retail and office space.

Scheduled to be completed in 2021, the building will provide retail space on the lower ground, ground and first floors with office accommodation on the upper floors.

Lendlease European construction business managing director Neil Martin said: “Great Portland Estates is a long-standing client and a company we greatly admire.

“We are now focused on delivering the very highest standard of building in order to unlock the full potential of this strategic location on one of London’s landmark streets.”

Demolition work at the site was completed in April 2019 and construction is currently underway at the lower ground, Lendlease said.

The building's façade will comprise unitised curtain walling, with curved glass to the southeast and southwest corner while the shopfronts will feature a glazed stick system.

Great Portland Estates official Helen Hare said: “We are delighted to be working with Lendlease again for our ongoing regeneration of the east end of Oxford Street.

"70-88 Oxford Street and 1 Newman Street will provide a high-quality retail and commercial offer in an area of the West End that is seeing strong demand for both types of development in advance of the arrival of the Elizabeth line.”

In a separate announcement, Lendlease said that it will commence work on second phase of Potato Wharf scheme in the Castlefield area, Manchester in the UK.

The second and final phase of canal-side scheme includes private terraces or balconies for all homes; views of the surrounding waterways; a dedicated cycle space for each home; car parking; electric vehicle charging points; and a communal landscaped courtyard overlooking the Castlefield waterways.

In the coming months, Lendlease will undertake works including replacement of hoardings and beginning piling. The first of new properties are planned to be made available for residents by late 2021.
