LCC Terminal to be constructed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport
Published: 02-Sep-2010
Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is building a low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT) with aerobridges at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
A joint venture between UEM Construction Sdn Bhd and Bina Puri Holdings Bhd has been chosen to complete the LCCT project by 2012.
The new RMB2 billion ($636 million) LCCT, near the existing KLIA terminal, will include 72 gates and a new dual-mode runway that will allow for a 25-minute turnaround time. On completion, the LCCT will be able to handle 30 million passengers each year.
The new terminal will have an area of 150,000 square metres and will have a comfort level of 15-20sqm per passenger. It will also host a 6,000 bay multi-story car park and an integrated transport hub for buses and taxis.
On the airside, 70 aircraft parking apron bays will be built to service the new LCCT. MAHB will also invest in the construction of a third runway (4km in length) for operational efficiency. Full parallel taxiways for aircrafts will also be built for Runway 2 and Runway 3 for quick turnaround.
The aerobridges are intended to provide comfort to passengers who would not have to worry about weather conditions while boarding aircraft.
