Kier to build new integrated urgent care centre in Lancashire, UK

UK-based Kier Construction has been selected by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust to construct a new integrated urgent care unit (IUCC) at Burnley General Hospital in Lancashire, UK.

The new emergency unit will replace the existing Urgent Care Centre and Children's Minor Illness Unit. The facility will include a GP out-of-hours service in line with the strategic direction of the Pennine Lancashire Unscheduled Care Group. The urgent care centre is set to open in late 2013.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust director of estates and facilities Martin Morgan said that the firm is that the selection procedure undertaken as part of the ProCure21+ process has led to the selection of Kier Construction as our partner to deliver the new unit.

"The timescales we have set ourselves are challenging but the progress we have made to date has been good," Morgan concluded.

Kier Construction framework manager Garry Bowker said that the company will utilize its national experience of designing and delivering urgent care facilities to deliver first class facilities that the people of east Lancashire can be proud of and benefit from for many years to come.
