Kier Living begins redevelopment of Almshouses in UK
9 August 2012Kier Living, a UK-based construction company, has begun redevelopment of the Almshouses in Exeter, UK.
The project involves development of new Almshouses at the site of former facility located in Culverland Road in Exeter. The new scheme will offer 24 two-bedroom units, which will be double the capacity of the old almshouse. The development will be a three-storey building, which has been designed for senior people.
The amenities for the residents include two escalators and a garden. The new residential units will be larger than the units it is replacing. Additionally, it will also answer the problems of sound and thermal insulation and access issues of the old facility.
Kier will incorporate several energy efficient features in the project, which include air source heat pumps. The highly insulated project is likely to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 4. The development was designed by UK-based architect Russ Palmer.
Kier Living is currently undertaking the demolition work on the site, thereafter the actual construction of the scheme is scheduled to begin. The project is being supported by Homes and Communities Agency, Exeter City Council and other philanthropic organizations.
