Hyundai wins $128 million substation contract in Saudi Arabia

South Korea-based Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company has secured a $128 million contract from Saudi Electric Company to build a substation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Pursuant to the contract, Hyundai will build a new 380kV substation as well as upgrade an existing substation near the port city of Jeddah. Under the terms of the contract, Hyundai will design, construct and pilot run the facility. The Jeddah substation project is part of a Saudi Arabia's larger project to build up its electricity production capability by 2019. The country has earmarked an investment of $80 billion for the development of power infrastructure. Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company Limited is engaged in the civil engineering and construction businesses primarily in South Korea, the Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The company is involved in the construction of buildings, structures, and related activities; and roads, bridges, housing site developments, and other activities.
