HCA starts work on $63 million residential scheme in Durham County

6 February 2012

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the UK's housing and regeneration delivery agency, has started construction of a new residential scheme in Durham County, in north UK, which will entail an expenditure of £40 million ($63.22 million).

The community will be built on a 31-acre site, owned by the HCA, of the former Shotley Bridge hospital and will be adjacent to the new Shotley Bridge hospital. HCA has awarded a contract to Cumbria-based Story Homes to develop the property. The property will feature 240 new homes, of which 60 will be affordable homes. Of the 60 homes, HCA plans to let 30 on rent while another 30 will be marketed as discounted homes. The new homes will be a mix of two, three, four and five bedroom residential units. The Shotley Bridge development will consist of 12 two-bed apartments, 66 two-bed houses, 59 three-bed houses, 94 four-bed houses and nine five-bed houses. The design of the houses will reflect the local flavor of brick and buff stone outer facade and mid-grey slate roof covering. The construction of the new homes is anticipated to create almost 75 construction jobs.
