Golden Gate hotel-casino plans expansion, upgrade
14 September 2011The downtown Golden Gate hotel-casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, has undertaken plans for a $12 million renovation and expansion project.
Work involves an expansion of 30,000 square feet through the north wall of the current structure to create a building encompassing five floors. The new building will house 16 new hotel suites. 14 of the new suites will have an area of 500 square feet each while the remaining two suites will measure 1,600 square feet each and will cover its top storey. The expanded structure will also feature conference rooms and more spacious contemporary restrooms to serve the whole casino. The present deli of the building will be relocated into the hotel lobby and overhauled while the lobby of the hotel will be shifted to the new facility and the casino floor will be expanded as part of the project. The current wetrooms will be phased out to enhance the area of the casino. Other features of the project include upgrading the landscaping from Fremont to Carson streets and installation of a colourful illuminated facade with a massive digital billboard-type screen adorning its top portion as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The casino makeover is due for completion by March 2012 while the hotel rooms are scheduled to be open by May 2012.
