GMR Emco begins commercial operations of 300MW coal unit in India

GMR Emco Energy Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Limited, has announced that its first 300MW unit of the 600MW coal based power plant, in Warora, Maharashtra, India, has begun commercial operations.

The new thermal power plant in Warora comprises two 300MW units. The first 300MW unit was synchronized with the grid on 10 December 2012 and the power generated by the unit is being evacuated to Bhadravati sub-station of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.

The company has entered into a power purchase agreement with Power Grid Corporation for the sale of entire production of the plant. The new unit is the Group's first coal-based power plant to commence commercial generation. The work on the second 300MW unit is in advanced stages and will be commissioned in the first half of 2014.
